Spey Scandinavian style, Two Handed Long Rod

Trout Scandi 5 weight rodThis video demonstrates test driving a 11'3" 5 weight Trout Scandi rod. I had this 2008 setup for streamer and Overhead casting, but the advent of short Scandi heads during the last year has added Scandi single spey to its function. This video shows all THREE (3) casting styles: Floating head, Full sink heads, and Overhead casting Full sink heads.
The line is a custom cut AFS Full sink heads S2S3 and S3S4. The floating head is Rio's 350 grain Steelhead Scandi, but can go lighter to 310 grain. I consider this setup light enough to not outgun the trout in the teens, but still stiff enough to shoot up to 45 feet of running line for a 350 grain head. The slow-mo video at the end shows how important the lower sections of the rod had to be stiff enough while the top section complaint enough to sling shot the tip for high line speed Thanks to Jeff for taking this video at the boat launch. |

Spey, Scandi Long Rod
This video demonstrates a Scandinavian spey setup whereby a 39' short belly line is used with copious running line stripped in after the cast. This allows casting bulky flies with fast sink tips for prodigious distance.
The line is a custom cut AFS Hover line that has a interchangeable multi tip. The rod is LL Bean's 14' 9 weight that has fast action. This video shows a Snake roll cast, and I am attempting to get distance with a Scandinavian short stroke so as to achieve less wear and tear from prolonged casting. |
